  i watched forrest gump the other day.

  it is no surprise it is one of the most successful movies of all time, i haven't tired of it :).

  anyhow, toward the end of the film as gump speaks to jenny's grave the words made me think of jws and the wt.. jenny, i don't know if momma was right or if, if it's lieutenant dan.

  Forrest Gump is a better movie than its sequel "Benjamin Button". I remember seeing it in the theater and I was so moved, I had goosebumps and tears at the end. One of the more powerful movies but done in such a gentle way. Brilliant, memorable music. I think it's Tom Hanks' best role, better than "Saving Private Ryan" or "Philadelphia".

  I've often thought of what that character had to say at the end, and I am starting to come around to agreeing with it. Maybe with the codicil of being slotted mixed in with fate. I think there are some in this life that just have no chance. It's not their fault and I don't want to cheapen them by calling it fate, but I am coming around to thinking that someone somewhere has put some people in a "you're-fucked-and-there's-nothing-you-can-do-about-it" slot.

  I find it nearly impossible to believe Susan Atkins in her story where she claimed she didn't murder Sharon Tate, or anyone else, that she was framed. She had nothing to lose and everything to gain by that claim, and that makes it nearly worthless.

  They were all so drugged up, and the women were beaten and treated as whores, I just find it so hard to believe any of them accurately remember anything from 1969. I remember reading John Lennon couldn't remember large parts of recording Sgt. Pepper because he was tripping on acid so much.

  I know how hard it is for me to remember abusive treatment, and I wasn't on drugs.

  Black Sheep, I hear you and I mean no disrespect, but whilst they're sitting in jail, and having committed such hideous acts that they did, I find it more believable that they're going to spin events in such a way that their version makes them look better. It's human nature.

  You keep mentioning something about that I have to provide evidence for my assertion. What assertion is that?

  The only criminal act that Van Houten should have been convicted of is desecration of a corpse.

  Van Houten won a retrial in 1977 on the grounds that her counsel had not effectively represented her at the original trial. The lawyer at her first trial, Ronald Hughes, had disappeared during the trial and was later found dead. It was alleged that members of the Manson Family killed Hughes, but this has never been proven. Van Houten's second trial ended in a hung jury. She was tried a third time, during which she was free on bond. She was found guilty of felony robbery, murder, and conspiracy to commit murder. Once again, she was sentenced to life in prison.

  Three trials, two verdicts of murder. That's more chances than most criminals get. Sounds like she's guilty of more than desecration of a corpse to me.

  Hold on George. Where did I say you said she was innocent? Please show me where I specifically mentioned that you were one of her supporters? I don't know you, nor your reason for starting this inane thread.

  I simply asked you to provide backup for your assertion. You chose to ignore me. Now you're putting words in my posts. Climb off your high horse.

  You're the one who started this thread. You're the one who felt the need to mark this person's passing. Why, I don't know. Your motives are a bit murky. But hey, whatever. You throw something out there, then you need to expect a response.

  personally, i would have no problem with this law.

  if they want to 'rejoin' society, this should be a condition of their release.

  i do not understand why human rights groups would be more concerned about these dangerous criminals...more...than children.. what do you think?.

  A better solution is life without parole. Pedophiles are extraordinarily self-centered and egocentric. They care only for their wants and desires. Worse, they see nothing wrong with raping a child.

  I don't pretend know the effects one way or the other when a pedophile is chemically castrated. But I do wonder, how comfortable would people feel if the state came forward with a chemical "solution" that, they claimed, would remove the danger from someone like say Charles Manson. Or Jack the Ripper.

  Just curious, but how comfortable would people feel letting a mass murderer out if they were chemicall "treated"? How safe would folks feel realizing that any "mistake" results in the death of someone innocent?

  No, I'm sorry but the only solution is life without parole. Lock 'em up and throw away the key. There are some people who, by their actions, lose the privilege of living with the rest of humanity and deserve only isolation for the greater good.

  1 - "well, everyone is going to die anyway, so if it at armageddon then ce la vie" 2 - "the disater today at the world trade centre is sad, but exciting" 3 - (an elder) "when armageddon happens, i want to be at a window, watching it all".

  So what's your point George? I asked you earlier for proof to back up your assertion. You ignored me. So be it.

  I have no sympathy or empathy for her whatsoever. I am neither happy nor sad she is dead. She committed an horrific act and it was just she spent the rest of her life in prison for it. She was given a fair trial and convicted on her charges. If her supporters cannot or will not prove her innocence maybe it's because there is nothing different from what Bugliosi proved 40 years ago.
